San Jose Shark's Mark Smith in Z-CoiL's!

Mark Smith, center for the San Jose Sharks, is the latest celebrity in Z-CoiL Pain Relief Footwear! Mark came into our store on Saturday to buy a pair of Nikes for training purposes, which we do not carry. He tried a pair of Z-CoiL's on and took them for a run outside and was very impressed in the amount of impact reduction that is provided. After a couple of slight adjustments, he was on his way!

Cult??

I had a person come into my store on Sunday, looking at the Z-CoiL Footwear and laughing like crazy... He said he had seen them around and wanted to know if it was a "cult" type thing! He figured that there had to be some sort of strange following for anyone to even think of wearing a shoe that looked like that.

I explained that we prefer to consider people who are wearing Z-CoiL's members of a very special family... people who have something in common... people who have had pain issues and have had those issues resolved, or people who know they are headed down that path and want to avoid it! People living life pain-free and in comfort does not really constitute a cult... but a family of well-informed, smart consumers!

I finally convinced him to try a pair on, and lo and behold, he is now a part of the Z-CoiL Family!

Customer Testimonial

One of our customers is a Communications Worker spokesperson, who travels around quite a bit, speaking on behalf of the Communications Workers of America. She was at a rally in Washington DC and ran into a person who had a pair of Z-CoiL High Desert Hikers on, and found out more about what the footwear had done for her.

Donna suffered from Plantar Fasciitis and had a terrible time walking on most days, but it was required in her position. She came in to our store in August, tried a pair on and found instant relief! She was amazed at how much better her feet felt. She purchased 2 pair that day!

Part of our process is to send a follow-up card to everyone who purchases a pair of Z-CoiL's to help us understand how we are doing, what needs to be improved and also what the customer is experiencing. We received the following back from Donna today:

I can finally walk and enjoy my life! Feet feel great in these shoes. I am constantly telling people about them as well as your place so they know where to go to purchase them. Like I told Alex (sales associate) in the store, you have a customer for life! Thanks again!

She's one happy person enjoying a normal pain-free life now!

Back issues...

I had a woman come into my store today who had a severe issue with her back. She had a herniated disk and it was causing extreme pain. When she walked in, she was limping tremendously because of the pain.

We fit her into a pair of Freedom 2000's and she walked around the store for awhile. I let people take the shoes outside and walk up and down the shopping plaza, which she did. After we made a few adjustments and she had worn the shoes for about 30 minutes of walking, her limp was almost totally gone and she had amazing relief!

Many times, just reducing the impact can take so much stress and strain off of the skeletal system, that you can get instant relief... maybe not totally, but enough to be able to carry out your daily tasks without pain medication.

Gout?

Gout is a systemic disease caused by the buildup of uric acid in the joints. An elevated blood level of uric acid occurs when the liver produces more uric acid than the body can excrete in the urine, or when a diet high in rich foods (e.g., red meat, cream sauces, red wine, turkey, organ meats, rich deserts, etc) produces more uric acid than the kidneys can filter from the blood. Over time, the uric acid crystallizes and settles in the joint spaces, most commonly in the joint of the big toe or in the ankle joints, causing swelling, inflammation, and pain.

This week was gout week in the store! First of all, I had a return from a person who said that the shoes caused his gout, which flared up a couple of days after Thanksgiving day. I also had three other cases of people who had gout flare-ups during the course of the week who came in to purchase shoes to help with their condition. As far as the shoes causing gout, I checked with some of my medical friends, and this is extremely unlikely, since gout is really a dietary condition. In reality, all of the people who had the flare-ups had a huge Thanksgiving dinner, complete with most of the foods listed above!

Can Z-CoiL's cure gout? Not at all since gout is related to your diet. Can Z-CoiL's help with gout? Yes! It won't help the gout go away, but it can help lessen the pain associated with it until you get your diet back in balance and the swelling subsides. Since we have a wide, deep toe box and because we are able to stretch the side of the shoe in the area where you might have discomfort, we can take pressure off of the painful area. Also, with the additional cushioning that we have in the forefront of the shoe, it helps to reduce the impact that your swollen joint has to endure, relieving the pressure and the pain. We have had several cases where our customers have had pain relief when they have had gout.

The best bet is to eat well if your are prone to gout, but if it does occur, look us up, and we can hopefully help reduce the tenderness and pain associated with the condition.

Z-CoiL's Great for European Traveler!

Have you ever been to Spain or Italy and had to spend hours walking on cobblestones? (I haven't!) Have you ever hoped that you would never see another cobblestone in your life because your feet and ankles hurt so much from all of the uneven, hard surfaces?

Enter Z-CoiL's! The coil on heel of Z-CoiL Footwear acts like independent suspension, not only absorbing the shock, but helping to keep your feet more level as you walk on the uneven surfaces. It "levels" out the surfaces and it is almost like you are walking on flat ground! In many of the Z-CoiL Dealers, they have what we call an rugged trail center. It is cobblestones and sharp rocks so you can test the stability of the Z-CoiL's plus understand how the coil and the cushioning really absorb all of the impact!

Durant Imboden has a website that is dedicated to European Travelers and is listed in Forbe's Best of the Web. He recently purchased a pair for himself and his wife and put them to the test with very favorable results! You can read his review at http://europeforvisitors.com/eEurope/articles/z-coil-shoes.htm.

So if you are headed overseas for a vacation, stop by and get your Z-CoiL's to make your trip more memorable!

If you fancy a car with state-of-the art coil springs, you’ll have to shell out $200,000 for a Ferrari Challenge Stradale. But for less then $200, you can own another sort of coil spring suspension—on your shoes. A pair of Z-CoiLs may look a little goofy, but the steel springs beneath the heels act as shock absorbers that can, say the manufacturers, reduce the pain of ailments from arthritis to heel spurs. Scientific research seems to bear them out. Two studies, one at the University of New Mexico and the other at Sandia National Laboratories, concluded that Z-CoiLs distribute weight far more evenly over a runner’s feet than brand-name cushioned shoes and also provide 50 to 100 percent more cushioning. The overall effect is to reduce the impact—equivalent to one-and-a-half times body weight when walking and three to four times when running—when feet collide with the ground. During a jog or fast walk, the shoes make a city street feel like a bed of firm moss.

Why wait?

It is interesting that in many cases of people coming in the store, they have seen or been told about Z-CoiL Footwear at least three times... Sometimes, their doctor first recommends them and they do some research. Then they might see someone with them on and talk to them and get a good report. Finally, they see someone else or someone they know buys some and tells them their personal life-changing story. Finally, they are motivated to come into the store and check them out.

We had another such case this week with a woman who's doctor recommended them, she talked to someone in them, and then her doctor recommended them once again. At this point, 5 months had passed before she finally came in the store!

She put some on and just kept saying "unbelievable, unbelievable..." Her foot pain was drastically reduced and she was actually able to put her full body weight on the foot that had given her such severe issues for many, many years. Of course, her next statement was "Why haven't I come in before? Why have I waited this long?" Only she can answer that... was it the looks (we are a bit unique looking!)? Was it the price? Was it just doubt that anything can help?

The good part is that you don't have to wait! I don't know of any Z-CoiL distributor that charges to try shoes on! In fact, many have very liberal return policies. At EZ Shoes, we allow a person to wear their Z-CoiL's in their normal life for 7 days. In that timeframe, we ask that if they are experiencing any issue, they return to us and let us adjust them. If we can't get them adjusted, and they are brought back in good condition, we give a full refund. We call it "The 7 Day Test Drive."

So, why wait... we aren't charging to try them on and many people get some relief while in the store! Come see us today!

November is Diabetes Month – Z-CoiL Pain Relief Footwear Can Help!

Z-CoiL dealers and diabetic customers nationwide are finding that the cushioned padded forefoot bed and springy heeled shoe provide much needed relief for diabetic feet. Although Z-CoiL pain relief footwear are not promoted or approved by the FDA as diabetic footwear, the lives of many people with diabetes are dramatically changed for the better through the use of Z-CoiL Pain Relief Footwear.

Diabetics wear Z-Coils because, in many instances, the springy footwear dramatically reduces the swelling and stops the impact to their feet. Much of the swelling appears to depart when Z-CoiLs are worn. But, complications do not always completely disappear because water retention and the constant pounding with each step they take contribute to the swelling. The built-in orthotic also protects the diabetic foot from injuries that could cause other problems.

We have had a number of people who have had burning and numbness in their feet, symptoms associated with a diabetes condition called neuropathy. By taking the pressure off of the forefront of the foot and the heels, the symptoms are reduced significantly and the customer is able to enjoy a more normal life.

We are able to modify the built-in orthotic to ensure that the diabetic has ample room in the footwear to eliminate any potential issues with rubbing and creating open sores on the feet. Also, the coil is adjustable so that we can put a softer side on the back of the footwear to eliminate even more of the shock that their feet would normally endure.

So, if you are diabetic and are looking for a new pair of footwear, stop by and try on a pair of Z-COiL's! You won't regret it.

Skeptic!

We had a lady come into the store the other day, who was forced in by her friend. She had nerve damage in her ankle and foot plus had problems with her knees. She is an Inn Keeper and was very skeptical about Z-CoiL's. Her comments were that she could never wear these to work because of how ugly they were. Her tone and attitude was that her mind was made up and that Z-CoiL's could not help her problems. She had just walked 4 hours at a flea market before she came in and she was hurting pretty bad.

She was finally convinced to try some on, and after walking just a few minutes, she had a huge smile on her face! She could not believe the comfort and how they had reduced her pain significantly! She was totally amazed and wondered why she had not heard of them and how we can get the word out more!

She went from a skeptic to a proud owner of 2 pair of Z-CoiL's and my guess is that she will add to those in the near future.

The bottom line is that unless you try them on and experience the pain relief qualities, you will never know if they will work for you!

Different styles for different people!

I had a woman come into the store today to try on a pair of Z-CoiL's. Her friend was with her who raved about the Z-CoiL's and they had similar issues. She tried on the Freedom 2000's and walked around for quite some time and decided that although her back felt better, her foot felt a little constrained, so she was not going to purchase them. I talked her into trying a pair of the CloudWalkers on, and she was amazed at the difference in the feeling of the two shoes! She felt less constrained and more room for her toes, so she purchased those instead.

Many people will come in with a certain style in mind and are not willing to try anything else. The thing about shoes is that different styles fit people's feet differently. For instance, a Freedom 2000 will fit a narrow foot better since it laces down further than the CloudWalker and you can get better support in the front of the foot. On the reverse side, a narrow foot does not do well in the clog because the opening is fairly set in it's size and made to accommodate a higher instep.

The point is, don't be afraid to "step out of your box" and try some new style that you would not normally wear. You would be surprised to see how different the various styles will fit your foot!

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL: Lending Support to Sore Soles

The Shoe Box Blog: THE WALL STREET JOURNAL: Lending Support to Sore Soles: 'A spring in your step is one thing. A spring in your shoe is another. But the makers of the Z-Coil shoe promise that their curious-looking footwear brings immediate relief from heel spurs, arthritis pain and other ailments that dog people's dogs.

With an exposed steel spring glued to the heel, Z-Coil shoes are designed to provide extreme cushioning. In addition to the spring, Z-Coils contain a plate system dubbed the Z-orthotic, which can be adjusted to correct for gait problems such as overpronation, which occurs when people roll their feet inward as they walk. Z-Coil Footwear says this combination of stability and shock absorption not only eases pain but also helps heal and prevent nagging conditions such as plantar fasciitis, which affects the arch.

An estimated 75% of Americans will experience foot problems at some time in their lives, according to the American Podiatric Medical Association, and millions suffer from knee, ankle and back ailments. Z-Coils are billed as a therapeutic solution. Available in several models, including running sneakers, hiking boots and clogs, they're sold only at authorized dealers, and the price ranges from $150 to $260 per pair.

The quirky footwear was born in the 1980s, when inventor Al Gallegos, a heavy runner at the time, had a butcher slice apart his shoes so he could glue a spring inside to relieve his chronic heel pain. After years of research and testing, his company started retailing the Z-Coils in 2000 and expects to sell 130,000 pairs in fiscal year 2004.

Before I discovered Z-CoiL, I spent $$$$$$ on shoes trying to find something comfortable to work in. I am a licensed Certified Surgical Assistant working in the operating room ten hours a day, and had to change shoes three times within that period.

My legs and back hurt so badly that I saw two nurologists and had various tests to determine the cause of the pain. Finding no definite cause, I was treated with medication for comfort (which I no longer have to take regularly).

Z-CoiL shoes do not rectify any medical condition but certainly prevents leg and back pain caused by standing and walking for long periods of time.

On a scale of one to ten, I rate Z-CoiL shoes a 9.5! Thank you Bill Workman for introducing me to Z-CoiL and thank you Vicky and the other Cra-Z-Coil staff for patiently working with me to provide a good comfortable fit.

Question for Z-COiL Owners...

I have talked to many owners of Z-CoiL's and I am trying to get a feel for what your doctor's opinion of Z-CoiL's is...

We have some doctors that totally believe in the product and refer people regularly, because they know that it is a non-invasive method to provide relief.

We have other doctors that think it is a fad (7 years and growing is not a fad!) They don't believe in the product or feel threatened that we will take business away.

What does your doctor believe? You can either post here or email me at caesar@ez-shoes.com.

Exploring options??

I had a woman come into the store last week with bilateral heel spurs. We knew she was headed towards our store as she limped out in the parking lot... In the store, she looked at the styles, the open coils, and the price and was concerned about all three. We explained the shoes to her and got a pair on her feet.

After about 15 minutes walking around the store, she was not limping, and her heel pain was much less. She sat down and said that she needed to explore her options, so we took the footwear off of her and limped out of the store.

Three days later, she came back in to the store and purchased a pair of Z-CoiL's. She said that she realized that there were no options! We knew she would be back!

Another success story!

We had a customer come into our store today who purchased a pair of Z-CoiL's about one month ago. She was on a cane when she came into our store and had two main issues. One was foot drop, which is a nerve and/or muscle disorder that affects the patient's ability to raise their foot at the ankle. This led to issues with her hip and back, since she favored one side of her body, causing pain.

Today, she was not using her cane at all and was walking without limping! It was an incredible difference from the first time that we saw her. Not only was she no longer in pain, but the spring action of the coil and the rocker sole was making her walk more smoothly. She was very excited and told me of another gentleman whom she referred into another store for Z-CoiL's. He weighed 350 pounds, and basically never left the house since it was such a struggle to walk. Last week, he was at a meeting that he hadn't been able to attend for years and was so much happier. He is now committed to take off some of the weight since he can walk again!

It sure feels good to know that we are out there changing people's lives, not only from a physical, pain-free perspective, but the overall quality of life!

Z-CoiL® Footwear Reports Record $10.8 Million in Sales!

(Albuquerque, New Mexico) - Poised on the edge of a footwear revolution, Z-CoiL® Footwear continues to experience record setting growth as it sets another annual sales record.

Z-Tech, Inc., dba Z-CoiL Footwear, reports record audited net sales of $10,843,824 for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2004. This figure represents a 69.5 percent increase over the $6,398,762 in net sales reported for the previous fiscal year. Net income for the year ended June 30, 2004 was $1,027,667 compared to $1,207,797 for the prior year.

"The sales growth and net income reported this year are extremely gratifying in view of several initiatives the company undertook during the year. We've made some bold moves to create a solid foundation for future growth," says Z-Tech CEO and President Andrés Gallegos.

These initiatives included not accepting new dealers since February 2004 in an effort to create a stronger and more nationally consistent dealer network, the purchase of new facilities, the expansion of our dealer training facilities, an increase in corporate staff to support the dealer network, and the purchase and implementation of a new Enterprise Resource Planning computer software system.

"This sales growth is continuing into the new fiscal year, as we set a new monthly record in July 2004," Gallegos adds. "Our net sales for the month exceeded $1.7 million for the first time in the company's history"

. Z-Tech has 200 authorized dealers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Rapid dealer expansion during 2002 and 2003 required examination of Z-Tech's support network to those dealers.

"We are currently revamping our dealer service and training program to provide exemplary customer service to our existing and new dealers," Gallegos says. "This will allow us to build stronger nationwide consistency in product delivery and customer service."

Z-Tech's growth has also been evident in facility and staffing needs. During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2004 the company has increased its internal staff by 87%, bringing on top talent to strengthen the support infrastructure for dealers. To accommodate the growth in personnel, Z-Tech acquired a new 11,274 square foot office facility last November in southeast Albuquerque.

In May 2004, Z-Tech's distribution center was also moved to a 25,330 square foot facility, almost doubling its previous capacity, in order to keep up with a growing demand for product. Through June 30, 2004, more than 250,000 pairs of Z-CoiLs have been sold.

Z-CoiL footwear is specially engineered to relieve foot, leg and back pain and is gaining strong brand loyalty nationwide. "The uniqueness of the footwear, coupled with our commitment and attention to customers is what sets us apart," Gallegos says. "We have fiercely devoted customers who are creating demand through their incredible life-changing Z-CoiL experiences."

Soreness from Z-CoiL's?

We had a customer come in this week complaining about some soreness in the calves and thighs after wearing her Z-CoiL's for 2 days. Her comment was that they are supposed to take away pain not cause pain! And that's exactly what they are designed for!

One of the benefits that Z-CoiL's have is that they can improve your posture. The footwear supports you better under your skeletal system, so this can tilt your hips a little forward and straighten up your upper torso. Overall, this is good, because your upper body is better supported over your hips and legs, taking stress off of the lower back... Of course, this also means that if your posture is bad, you can feel a bit of muscle soreness in the legs and occasionally the lower back until you get more used to the new stance.

If you do start getting a little sore, then take the Z-CoiL's off for a few hours and go back to your other shoes. Just keep repeating this process until you have adjusted and the soreness has subsided.

Not just shoes!

Here in the store, we try not to refer to Z-CoiL's as shoes... but footwear! You might think there is not much of a difference, but there is. Normally, a shoe is a piece of rubber with leather slapped around it to put on your foot. Z-CoiL's are much more than that. They are more of an orthopedic device. There are "moving parts" so to speak, and therefore require a little more care and attention.

You have to understand, that just like your automobile, things can "break" under stress, depending on your usage. We occasionally have the rubber heel come loose, which can be easily glued back on. Sometimes, the screw will come loose, requiring tightening with a phillips screwdriver. Either of these things can be corrected easily by our staff, or if you care to, you can do it yourself.

With proper care, Z-CoiL's will last a lot longer than most other shoes, making the investment in your well being worth every cent!

Diabetic Neuropathy

I had a customer come into the store today who had purchased a pair of Z-CoiL's about one month ago in Reno, NV. He had suffered from diabetic neuropathy and sciatica. While having a massage, the masseuse told him of Z-CoiL's and he immediately went and purchased his first pair.

He was totally amazed! After just an hour of wearing the footwear, his foot pain was almost gone and his sciatica was gone also... He has been able to exercise more and has lost 12 pounds in the last month. He was ecstatic and came in to purchase a second pair.

Neuropathy is caused by functional disturbances in the peripheral nervous system. We see many diabetics who suffer from this condition. Sometimes, it is numbness and tingling of the feet. Sometimes, the symptoms are more debilitating causing severe pain or a "needles and pins" type of feeling.

We have been able to assist many people suffering from Neuropathy, but there have been cases in some of our customers where the pain is so severe that Z-CoiL's provided no relief. The bottom line is that you need to try the footwear and see if they can make a difference.

Be supportive!

I had a customer come into the store with his wife today. The gentleman had severe heel pain, and after just a few minutes in Z-CoiL's, his heel pain was reduced by over 50%. He was totally shocked at how good he felt!

Did he buy the shoes? NO!!

The reason? His wife thought they were "too ugly" and said that she would not be seen with him if he wore Z-CoiL's! He thought she was kidding, but when she stormed out of the store, he knew she was serious.

Unbelievable... Personally, I don't consider them ugly... and we prefer to call them unique!

If something works to put your loved one on the road to a normal, pain-free life, be supportive! After all, as we have witnessed in many, many cases, when a person is out of pain, they are happier, more full of energy, and the whole family relationship changes for the better.

Yosemite without a major issue!

I just had one of our retired customers come in the store who had just completed her very first backpacking trip at Yosemite! She hiked for 5 days over the rugged mountains at Yosemite, covering over 35 miles in a pair of Freedom 2000's. She said that there were a couple of times that she did feel a little tired near the end of the day, but the only soreness she had was in her thighs from the uphill and downhill climbs. Not bad for someone who has some serious foot problems! She did get a blister at the end of the 5th day and we have now adjusted her shoe to hopefully prevent that from happening in the future.

She was very excited, and as usual, the Z-CoiL's mad a big hit with the other hikers. For her next trip, she is planning to tackle Half Dome in Yosemite!

Z-CoiL's help tackle 3 days at Disneyland!

I received a note from one of our customers, who just spent three days at Disneyland. Here's what he had to say:

"Speaking of Disneyland we certainly gave our Z-Coils a good test and work out over the 3 full days we spent there in the theme parks. In the past we usually were pretty worn out and dragging our heels by the end of the first day. Then on the morning of the second day our feet would protest as we subjected them to more walking. But I must say that both my wife and I marveled at how relaxed our feet were after 12 hours of repeated walking throughout our first day at the parks.

Since my doctors diagnosis of having plantar fasciitis, a trip with so much walking would prove to be a very painful experience even with the first day. It prompted me to look for relief from a foot specialist who gave me painful injections into my heels and only gave me temporary relief. But since using my Z-Coils I no longer see the foot specialist and walk a much more pain free life.

With this trip I had absolutely no pain. When I got up the morning of my second day of vacation, my first steps after getting out of bed were pain free. This was not the case in the past before buying my first pair of Z-Coils. I had no pain or fatigue what so ever this trip because of my Z-Coil Men’s Sandals which I used primarily during this trip. "

Once again, Z-CoiL's have helped someone lead a normal, pain-free life!

Recovering from knee surgery?

We had a gentleman come into the store yesterday who had knee surgery 14 days ago. He was on two crutches and was favoring his knee significantly. He had been referred by his physical therapist who told him he owed it to himself to at least try the footwear, no matter what they looked like.

After putting a pair of shoes on his feet, he stood up and was amazed. He walked a little bit on two crutches then decided he didn't need both of them, and put one down. He continued to walk with less of a limp and significantly less pain!

By taking the shock off of the knee that is recovering, the pain was diminished and the knee will have a better chance to recover, alleviating some of the tenderness and inflammation.

So, keep us in mind if find yourself in this situation!

Free Z-CoiL's given away in record time!

We just gave another pair of Z-CoiL Footwear away this week to one of our customers who purchased her first pair in July! In two short months, she was able to generate enough interest among her friends and co-workers to send in 10 referrals that purchased various styles of Z-CoiL's! That's 10 more people that are free of pain...

Vicki, who is in the medical profession, now owns 3 pair and is working on her fourth!

Great job, Vickie!

Customer's first experience!

One of our customers came into the store on Saturday to buy a second pair of Z-CoiL's because they had helped her knees and back so much. We happened to have a lot of people in the store at the time, some returning and some new customers. Of course, when this happens, everyone becomes instant friends, because they all have something in common... pain!

She began telling a first time customer of the day that she visited our store. I had just put a pair of Z-CoiL's on another first time customer who had severe arthritis of the hips and knees and then proceeded to put a pair on her. The woman who had severe arthritis began walking around the store. After just a few minutes of walking, her husband noticed that she was not limping anymore. She responded that even better than that, her pain was almost gone! She began to get tears in her eyes as she walked around. Next thing you know, the first woman, who was also walking around, had tears in her eyes because she was experiencing less pain also! Needless to say, we had a couple of converts to our Z-CoiL Family!

This is not to say that they are miracles for everyone, but since I have opened this store, I do believe in miracles more that I ever did before!

Sorry about the absence!

The last week has been crazy. My ISP switched to a new environment, which caused many things to break... I had to rebuild the site plus move my BLOG to a different hosting site. Hopefully, you were not too negatively impacted! I have it temporarily resolved and if I can't get FTP access back to my site, this will be the new permanent location!

Thanks for your patience!

Testimonial page

In case you are wondering, we send a feedback card out to every person we sell shoes to about 4-6 weeks after they have owned the shoes. This gives you a chance to experience the shoes and see what impact they will have. The card also asks for you to rate our service and tell us how we or the shoes can be improved.

The comments that are on the testimonial page are all taken from these cards, which are in a book in our store. So, feel free to come in and browse through the book a your leisure!

We're not miracle workers!

Although many of our customers who have worn the shoe and have had a life changing experience with the results they provided may disagree! We had a customer buy a pair of shoes two days ago and returned them today. He said that they did not make his heel pain go totally away while wearing the shoes for those 2 days! When asked if it felt any better at all, he said it was less painful during his two 12 hour shifts and his walk at the mall, but his heels still hurt. Even though we explained that we could make some adjustments to the shoes that might make it more comfortable and that he should try it for more than just two days, he refused. His next step is surgery...

As the title said, we are not miracle workers. In his case, his plantar ligament was damaged over time being on his feet on concrete floors, and has gotten worse as he continued to do the 12 hour shifts. On the flip side, it will take a bit of time to heal. Pain in the heel can be very overwhelming and as many of our customers have told us, can rule your life... can I walk through all the stores I need to today, where can I stop to rest and for how long, will I be able to go to the special school event tonight or will the pain be too unbearable...

We do offer a 7 day test drive for our footwear, allowing people to wear them in their normal life to see what the impact is. That does not mean that the pain will be totally gone in 7 days, but it will give you a chance to see if they will work for you. The testimonials on our page is proof that they do work!

Another pair of Z-CoiL's to be auctioned off!

The Loma Prieta Educational Fund will be holding their annual Gala, One Enchanted Evening, on Saturday October 2 starting at 4:00 PM. Festivities include wine tasting of local Santa Cruz Mountain wines and hors d'oeuvres while you browse and bid on silent auction items, including a pair of Z-CoiL Footwear! The setting is an incredible convention area, Mason du Lac, located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. There will also be dinner, a live auction and dancing under the stars!

Last year, the footwear were "stolen" at an incredibly low price, but I'm not sure that will happen this year! More people are aware of the great benefits, so I think we will see a little higher price!

Visit www.lpef.org for more information and to purchase your tickets to this wonderful event and support education in the community.

Half sizes

One question we get all the time is if Z-CoiL's come in half sizes. The answer is a qualified no... They don't specifically come in half-sizes, but we have various ways to make a shoe fit snugger using pads and various adjustments in order to ensure a quality fit. Also, every shoe manufacturer sizes differently and if you wear a size 8.5 in a Nike, you might fit into an 8 Z-CoiL.

So, come on in and let us do whatever is necessary to make you comfortable in your Z-CoiL's!

Happy Anniversary to us!

Believe it or not, we have now been open for one full year... and what a year it has been! We have seen people with many different ailments come in the store, from heel pain to back pain. We have had people cry in the store because they finally found something that worked. We have been hugged by many people for providing them some relief and making their lives pain free. We have met so many people in so many walks of life and have developed some lasting relationships as each person becomes part of our Z-CoiL Family.

People have canceled surgeries, stopped their daily pain medication, discontinued cortisone and cartilage injections and stopped having to walk on their toes because the pain was so bad. We've seen people come in the store with pain and walk out with little or no pain and better posture. It has been truly unbelievable to say the least!

To go home at the end of the day and know that we have put a smile on someone's face, changed their whole demeanor and drastically impacted their daily lives makes this profession one that can't be beat!

What a truly remarkable year... Hope yours was as rewarding!

Priorities!

We had a customer come into the store today to buy his third and fourth pair of Z-CoiL's. He had already owned a pair of Z-Duty's and a pair of High Desert Hikers. Today, he purchased a second pair of Z-Duty's so he would be able to swap off between shoes and also a pair of SideWinder Sandals.

So you understand how important his Z-CoiL's are in his life, when asked how they were working out for him, his reply was: "If there was a fire at my house, the first thing I would do would be to grab my Z-CoiL's and then my guitar! The rest can burn...!" Now, he definitely has his priorities straight!

Till later,

Adjustments to the footwear

We had a first time customer in the store today at the same time that we had another loyal customer who had come in for an adjustment. I was asked if you had to come in regularly for adjustments.

What we find is that many people never need to have their footwear adjusted after their purchase. On the other hand, we do have people who wear the shoes for awhile and realize that they have some pressure in some area and it is making them uncomfortable. We will always take care of those issues. We also have people who come into the store with very severe injuries or very swollen feet. We adjust the shoes to make them comfortable, but after a period of time in the shoes, their injury heals or their swelling goes down, and the shoes no longer are fitted appropriately. Again, feel free to stop by and we will make sure that we take care of those issues and get the footwear feeling comfortable again.

There is no charge for those types of adjustments because we want satisfied customers who will help spread the word about the product and service we provide!

Till later,
Caesar...

It takes time for a quality fit!

As most of you are aware, Z-CoiL's are not typical footwear. There are many adjustments we can make to ensure that you feel very comfortable in the footwear. Because of this, a first time fitting can take anywhere from 45 min to 2 hours, sometimes more!

Today was a very busy day in the store. Of course, the busiest time was when one of us took a lunch break and 7 people showed up for shows, plus brought their families who wanted to try on footwear! Handling that many people with only one staff person is difficult, and we try our best to ensure we are servicing everyone as quickly as possible while still giving them the attention they need and deserve.

So, we really appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to ensure that you are fit with the appropriate footwear and they are adjusted correctly!

She could not walk for a long distance...

We had a customer come into the store today who had undergone hip surgery. Since the surgery, she could not walk very far at all without having to rest because of the pain. She was hoping the shoes would help her out.

Well, although my store is not very big, when you are trying on Z-CoiL's, you can tend to walk and walk and walk in circles in the store, which she did for over 35 minutes! Now, at a normal slow walking pace, this would equate to close to a mile... I asked her how her hip was doing, and she said that it did not hurt as much as usual, but she was not sure that she could walk very far even in these shoes. When I pointed out how long she had been walking and the distance, she was totally amazed!

Of course, she wore them out of the store, and I have a feeling that she will be back in for another pair...

Till later,
Caesar...

One heel feels softer?

We have had a few people who come in and try on the shoes tell us that one coil feels like it compresses more than the other. When we talk to the person more, we usually find one of ytwo things: either they have a leg length discrepancy or they have had an injury to one side (either foot, leg, knee or hip). With an injury, they have been favoring one side for a long time and therefore they hit heavier on the opposite side, causing the spring to compress more. In either case, we can many times adjust for this and get the shoes feeling like a matched pair. Many times though with an injury, as the injury heals the person will stop favoring their damaged side and will get back to walking normal.

Menagerie of people!

We had a real mix of people in the store today! It ranged anywhere from a doctor in occupational medicine, working trying to get people back to work, an artist, a retiree and a teacher in a prison! The interesting part is that they all relate to each other and the situation that they are going through... We all wonder about the pain we go through, but spend one day in my store, and you will see how much you have to be thankful for! We see people who have been in pain for three or more years who have some instant relief from that burden they are carrying in just 30 minutes in our store! Talk about making you feel good... Just to know that you have improved someone's life is tremendous.

We send out cards to everyone who purchases a pair of shoes from us about 4-6 weeks after they have owned the shoes. This gives them some time to get used to them and hopefully realize some benefit from the footwear. We also pride ourselves on service, taking the shoes off and putting the shoes on a potential customer. I was asked today if I destroy all cards that have negative feedback, since all of the testimonials you see are positive. The fact of the matter is that we treat the feedback cards very seriously, and follow up with any comment that comes back negative. We want people to be comfortable in our footwear and want to make sure that if there is an issue, we get it resolved as soon as possible. If you have purchased a pair of footwear from us, even if it is beyond our return policy, please contact us and we will work with you to make sure that we have a quality fit and you are satisfied.

Children in Z-CoiL's

From a company standpoint, Z-CoiL's are not intended for use by children. We have made a couple of exceptions in cases where they are medically necessary. We have a couple of teenagers in the footwear who have muscular dystrophy. What we found was that because of the rocker sole, they have less of a chance to drag the tip of the shoe, reducing stumbling as they walk. Also, the shock reduction aids in the reduction of their foot and leg pain, which is often associated with this condition. Of course, they must be responsible enough to understand that there are tripping hazards that they have to be aware of.

Z-CoiL's helped her through Chemo

We had one of our sweetest customers come in today that has been suffering from cancer for the third time and is undergoing chemotherapy (almost at her last treatment!!) She has had terrible problems with her hips and especially her feet, and if it wasn't for her Z-CoiL's, she would not have made it through! Her spirits were high as she bought two more pair... and her husband hit me up for a free shoehorn or two!

I lost my brother to cancer, so I know what her family is going through and I can only imagine what she is going through! She is truly a survivor and we wish her the best to beat this dreaded disease...

Remember, we still have an offer out there for a free pair of shoes to anyone who can get us a prominent story in the Mercury News! Someone has to have contacts that they can share their success with and help make Z-CoiL more of a household name!

Hope your day went as well as ours!

Saved her life!

I had a customer come into the store yesterday to get another pair of shoes. She basically said that Z-CoiL's have "saved her life!" Her knees were in very bad condition and she was extremely overweight. With Z-CoiL's, she was able to start walking again, which changed her whole outlook on life! She started eating better, lost 100 pounds through dieting and exercise, and she has no more knee pain. She has topped her injections of cortisone and is no longer on Vicodan. The relationship with her family has improved because her own self-esteem has improved significantly. She's was not sure where she would be today if it wasn't for Z-CoiL's!

Frustrating return today...

We take our work personally here at EZ Shoes and today was a bit frustrating!  I had a return from someone who had limped into the store two days ago with a bad neuroma (pinched nerve) near the front of her foot.  She put the footwear on and felt much better after walking in the shoes for about 20 minutes in the store not limping!

She came limping back into the store today and returned them.  I asked a series of questions as to the reason for the return so I could understand what the issue was.  The bottom line is that she felt a little unstable.  This is something that we can easily correct for by rotating the coils or switching out the coils for a stronger set.  She had already made up her mind that they were not for her and that she would "put up with the pain."  We refunded her money and she limped back out.

The sad part is that she did not have to be in pain and we could have adjusted it in just a few minutes so that she felt more stable.  We try our best to ensure an appropriate fit when you are in our store, but there are times when you are out in your normal life that something will come up that we did not anticipate.  Given the chance, we can normally correct for the issue and have you back on the street in no time!

So the bottom line is that if you feel like there is some issue with your Z-CoiL's, please stop by and we will do everything in our power to correct it so that you can enjoy a pain-free life!

Only 6 days left until the price hike!

We have had a lot of customers take advantage of the last minute savings on the various styles of Z-CoiL's trying to beat the price hike...  so much so, that we (and in some cases, the manufacturer) have run out of certain sizes in some of the styles.  If you come in and we do not have your size in stock, we will put your name on the waiting list and honor the current prices.

One thing to note, we cannot hold the shoes indefinitely since we do have a lot of people waiting, so we will only hold them 3 days unless we agree to some other timeframe.  Thanks for your understanding!

Another Hiker accomplished her goal!

I had another hiker in the store today who hadn't been able to backpack for over 2 years.  She purchased a pair of High Desert Hikers and after a short time wearing the shoes, she was able to once again backpack into her favorite areas!

She was on loose rock and shale, but had no issues with the stability of the footwear.  Once again, Z-CoiL's come to the rescue and we are glad to have been a part of her trek!

Z-CoiL's brave 9 days in Disneyworld and Epcot Center!

One of our customers came into the store yesterday to buy a third pair of Z-CoiL's for her and a pair of the men's sandals for him, his second pair.  They bought their first pairs at the end of December in 2003.  Both of them had issues they were dealing with including heel spurs, back  and knee problems.

During their trip, the were on their feet from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, doing all the normal tourist type things you do at these amusement areas.  Both them just couldn't stop telling us about how great they felt during that time, how much energy they had, and how they would not have been able to do it if it hadn't been for their Z-CoiL Footwear!

Of course, they were noticed also by many people, who inquired about the shoes, how they helped, and even asking them if they would take them off so they could try them!  Hopefully, they will get me a picture and a bit more of their story that we can post!

Another free pair given away!

Congratulations goes to Steve for reaching his 10 referrals and receiving a free pair of Z-CoiL Footwear!  Steve was our first customer before we even opened our store on Camden.  Steve has a severe issue with his ankle, and here is his testimonial:
==============================================

After suffering a severe injury to my ankle in a car accident 35 years ago, leaving my bones, tendons, and ligaments torn and broken, I was diagnosed with post-traumatic osteo arthritis, a problem aggravated with time and use.  Cortisone shots, pain medication and artificial cartilage injections provided me with only temporary and intermittent relief.  Z-CoiL shoes has allowed me to walk relatively pain free!  If you walk in pain, you owe it to yourself to try Z-CoiL shoes!
==============================================

When I first met Steve at his home, he was limping significantly, and had a hard time walking for even a short distance due to the severe pain that he was incurring.  His doctor had referred him to me as an alternative to a fusion.  After wearing the shoes for about 45 minutes in his house, his limp had diminished substantially and he was standing more upright!  He bought two pair from me, and shortly thereafter, had purchased two more pair.  He has referred many people and came into the store to purchase three more pairs of shoes today.  He now owns 7 pair of Z-CoiL's:  CloudWalkers, Freedom 2000 in blue/white and black, both styles of SideWinder Sandals, Zueco Clogs and High Desert Hikers.  One of those pairs today was free due to the referral program, and he is on his way to his next free pair!  Now, if I can only talk him into the Z-Duty's, he will have a complete collection!

Thank you, Steve, for your continued support and congratulations on your free pair!

With the announcement of the price hike, many of our loyal customers have been in to purchase one or more pair to beat the increase! We are ordering stock daily but with all of the dealers nationwide experiencing the same situation, shipping is a bit delayed. Although we are out of a few sizes, we still have most in stock and have over 80 pair on order.

Don't delay, come see us today! (kinda catchy, huh!)

Heel Pain

I had a customer come into the store yesterday who had suffered from severe heel pain for over 2 years. His description was that it felt like someone was stabbing a knife into his heels, especially in the morning. We fit him into a pair of Z-CoiL's and he had almost immediate relief! Heel pain is one area where Z-CoiL's can benefit people tremendously.

There are several reasons for that:
- We position the coil directly under the skeletal system, which takes pressure off of the heel.
- The built-in orthotic helps to provide more equal pressure over the total surface of the foot, eliminating hot spots of severe pressure.
- And of course, the impact reduction of the coil reduces the amount of force that your foot is experiencing which helps to alleviate the pain.

Many people think that the pain in the heel is always caused by spurs, or "bone growths" on the heel. In many cases, this pain is actually caused by damage to the plantar ligament that runs from the ball of your foot to your heel. If damaged, it can tense up and start pulling away from where it is attached at the heel. This can lead to heel spurs if not properly treated. With our solid orthotic, we are able to protect and cradle that important ligament, giving you the proper support that is needed and allowing the ligament to heal. Of course, only your physician can determine the exact cause of your heel pain, so we highly recommend that you visit your physician for a diagnosis. Just keep in mind that Z-CoiL's are an alternative to expensive cortisone shots, custom orthotics and pain killers! It is always best to treat your body with non-invasive technology when possible.

Until later!

A Real Z-CoiL Family!

We recently received a note from one of our customers who is definitely a die-hard Z-CoiL Fan! As you will see below, she is helping to spread the good news to everyone! After all, when you are out of pain, you can't help but tell the world!
-------------------------------------
Hi,
I now own 3 pair of Z-CoiL shoes and if they made them in a pump, I would own them too. I can not say enough good things about how these shoes make your feet feel. I had surgery on my left foot last October for Plantar Fasciitis and bought a pair shortly after having my cast removed. Of course, before I purchased them, I had spent $75 on a pair of shoes from a prominent store which claimed they were specifically for my particular condition. What a waste of money they were!

Words can not describe how well your feet will feel wearing these shoes. Go try a pair on and see for yourself. Since last October, we have also purchased a pair of work boots for my husband due to his bad knees and back pain. Much to our surprise, they didn't cost any more then a good pair of Red Wings would have. Now he tends to wear his work boots all the time because he found when he wasn't wearing them, he would start to have more knee pain.

Because of our success with zcoil shoes, we purchased a pair of CloudWalkers for my father and clogs for my mother. We are happy to be a Z-CoiL family!

Another Z-CoiL BLOG worth viewing

Top names wear Z-COiL's!

Does the name Joe Rogan ring a bell? He is the host of Fear Factor, and last week, he was seen on his show in a pair of, what else, but Z-CoiL's! I guess with all of the walking and stunts, he needed something to keep him going day in and day out!

How about Gary Grubbs? He has appeared in dozens of movies and TV shoes, including "Runaway Jury", "The X-Files", "JFK" and "Will and Grace". He had a severe case of plantar fasciitis and was ready for surgery. Because of the reduction of impact that Z-CoiL provided, he has canceled his surgery and is actually jogging again for the first time in 4 years!

There are a couple of well-known athletes also in the footwear. Olympic Silver Medalist in middle distance running, Yvonne Green, ruptured her Achilles tendon and with the help of Z-CoiL's, she is now able to run again, although not in competition like before. Curly Johnson, a Super Bowl winning punter from the New York Jets is also sporting a pair to deal with the arthritis that has developed in his knees due to the punishment that they endured during his football career. He has gotten tremendous relief from various issues including Achilles tendonitis, knee arthritis, back and neck pain.

So you can see, the Z-Family extends to all walks of life and continues to provide relief form many different types of foot, leg and knee problems.

Until next time,

As many of you are aware, we have trying to get some media attention. We feel that we have an excellent story to tell as all of you members of the Z-CoiL Family can attest to. We are offering a free pair of Z-CoiL Footwear to anyone who can help us get a prominent story (front page of any section) in the Mercury News. Z-CoiL's to be auctioned off on KTEH PBS Auction!

On July 21, from 7PM to 11PM, all of the various items available for auction will be shown on a special event for the KTEH Silent Auction. We are offering a pair of Z-COiL's for the auction as a way of showing our support. Tune in and make a bid!

Pain versus vanity?

I had two customers come in the store today that were very unsure about the looks of the Z-CoiL Footwear. They were both in pain and were referred by their doctors. In both cases, they tried on the footwear and told me they felt more comfortable in the shoes and the pain was less. One decided that it was worth a try and bought. That person was able to take the leap of "faith" and try something that would get her off of the cortisone shots and the daily pain killers that she was taking. Who do you think will be happier with their decision?

70 mile hike at Philmont!

We just received a post card from one of our customers, Dan, who has had problems with his knees and feet. He bought a pair of hikers several months ago to prepare for a hike with his Scout Troop at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Here's what he had to say:
===============================
Hello!
I just completed hiking 70 miles in 10 days with a pair of Z-CoiL hiking boots. We climbed Mt. Baldy. Had a great time!

Dan

===============================

Most of you are probably not aware of Mt. Baldy in New Mexico, but it is a gruelling hike up to a 12,440' summit! This can be tough when you also consider the fact that he had over 30 pounds on his back, adding to all of the regular impact of an uphill climb... I've hiked Mt. Baldy before, but I was young and my body was still in good shape, so I can attest that this is a feat that Dan should be very proud of!

Congratulations and I'm glad that EZ Shoes and Z-CoiL could be a part of your success!

Significant price increase August 1

We regret to inform you that we are forced to raise our prices effective August 1, 2004 due to a significant price increase from the manufacturer. In the long run, the footwear is still very well priced compared to other alternatives such as custom orthotics, pain medication and doctor bills. Plus it is very difficult to put a price tag on the quality of life you obtain when you are not in pain.

The new prices are as follows:
- CloudWalker - $189.95
- CloudWalker Velcro - $209.95
- CloudWalker Steel Toe - $219.95
- Freedom 2000 - $189.95
- Z-Duty Work Boot - $249.95
- Z-Duty Work Boot Steel Toe - $259.95
- High Desert Hiker - $209.95
- Zueco Clog - $179.95
- Taos Clog - $189.95
- SideWinder Sandal - $179.95

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause, but as many of you know, the footwear can be life changing and is well worth the expenditure even at the new price.

We thank you for your continued support.

New Styles Coming!

During my visit to Albuquerque, I was given a briefing on new styles that are either close to being released or are in the initial test stages. Within the next 6-8 weeks, we will have a man's sandal in black and brown, and a ladies sandal in off-white/bone, brown and black. The style is very similar to our current style, the only difference is that the toe box is much wider, allowing for a better fit for many people. We have some black women's in stock now if you would like to drop by and see them. They are in very limited quantities at this time since it was an initial test batch. By the time the full shipment gets here, it will be close to the end of the summer, but we always have a real nice Indian Summer so we should be in good shape here in California! More to come in other posts...

Exciting Dealer Conference

As some of you may know, I spent some time back at Z-CoiL headquarters for the first annual Dealers Conference. It was pretty exciting to have 170 dealers and employees gathered in one spot, recanting stories about their customers and how they have changed people's lives! Everyday, the Z-CoiL Family grows worldwide!

There were sessions on advanced fitting, common ailments and how to deal with them, and how to reach more people with the remarkable story we have to tell! It was a very worthwhile trip!

EZ Shoes Dealer Ranking in Z-CoiL

Just as a side note, EZ Shoes was dealer #40 out of 225 nationwide for 2003, which isn't too bad considering we were only open for 4 months! Thanks to all of you that made this possible! This year will be even better...
